Mahidol University MU-EDP Delegation Visits NCKU to Strengthen Collaboration and Foster Innovative Exchange

The delegation of 44 participants from Thailand’s Mahidol University (MU) Executive Development Program (MU-EDP), led by Ms. Nara Pao-in, Vice President for People Management and Organization Development, visited National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) on March 21. This visit aims to facilitate an in-depth exchange between the two universities, focusing on key areas such as end-to-end research, technology transfer and commercialization strategies, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as well as innovative planning and design research for societal well-being. Additionally, the application of artificial intelligence in higher education and research, as well as talent management and development in future scenarios, are also topics for discussion.

Chair Prof. Sun-Yuan Hsieh, Vice President for International Affairs from NCKU, emphasized the long-standing academic and cultural exchange between NCKU and Mahidol University (MU), which began in 2004. Over the past 20 years, the two universities have built strong cooperation in joint research projects, dual degree programs, and faculty and student exchanges. The discussions during this exchange focused on highly innovative and forward-thinking topics, with both universities bringing rich experience to these areas. This exchange is expected to significantly enhance future collaboration. Furthermore, it was highlighted that NCKU’s Overseas Hub in Thailand is located at MU, providing a unique platform for both institutions to strengthen their partnership and foster increased academic exchanges moving forward.
Ms. Nara Pao-in, Vice President for People Management and Organization Development of MU, expressed her honor in leading a delegation of 44 senior members from various faculties of MU to NCKU. She emphasized the importance of this exchange visit and hoped that the event would foster future cooperation and deepen the relationship between the two institutions.
Following the opening remarks, Prof. Liang-Ming Whang from Innovation Headquarters (IHQ) as well as Prof. Hsiao-Fen Hsu from Center for Corporate Relations and Technology Transfer introduced the university's industry innovation strategies, including technology transfer, startups, and commercialization strategies. Prof. Chia-Han Yang from Institute of Creative Industries Design presented research on planning and design innovations for a healthy aging society. Assistant Prof. Yu-Ming Hsieh from the Academy of Innovative Semiconductor and Sustainable Manufacturing (AISSM) discussed the role of artificial intelligence in higher education and research applications. Associate Prof. Hsu-Chan Kuo from the Center of Teacher Education and Institute of Education shared how NCKU uses technology to enhance learning in primary and secondary schools. He highlighted that both NCKU and MU have deep historical backgrounds and outstanding teaching capabilities, stressing the importance of considering their future roles in the educational field.

In conclusion, Associate Prof. Wei-Shiun Chang, Associate Vice President for International Affairs summarized the discussions by highlighting that NCKU students have an excellent reputation in the industry and are ranked among the best universities by industry leaders. He emphasized NCKU’s social responsibility and mission in talent cultivation and expressed hopes that the discussions would open up more opportunities for future collaboration between the two institutions.
The MU delegation was warmly welcomed by NCKU representatives and participated in a productive exchange with NCKU faculty and speakers. Both institutions expressed eagerness to explore further opportunities for collaboration, academic research, and future development.
