The 2025 NCKU Sports Winter Camp introduces the AIoT Badminton Training System, developed by NCKU’s AI4DT Center, for the first time. A key feature of the system is the AI-powered shuttlecock launcher, which enables one-click customization of training parameters such as speed, frequency, height, and rhythm.
This year, the NCKU Sports Winter Camp, organized by NCKU's Physical Education Office , features the AIoT Badminton Training System for the first time. Developed by the Artificial Intelligence for Digital Transformation Research Center (AI4DT Center) , the system includes smart rackets, an AI camera, an AI-powered shuttlecock launcher, and more. By leveraging AI and cloud computing technology, it not only provides precise insights into each player's training data to enhance their skills and tactical adaptability but also adds a touch of excitement and a futuristic feel to the sport.

Jeen-Shing Wang, professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and director of the AI4DT Center, explains the player's training performance using data from the AI dashboard.
The AIoT Badminton Training System comprises four main components. First, the AI-powered shuttlecock launcher enables one-click customization of speed, frequency, height, rhythm, and other training parameters, simulating real-game scenarios while adapting to each player’s needs to enhance hit accuracy and training intensity. The smart racket, equipped with a built-in sensor module, accurately records shot types, swing counts, speed, and power, providing instant feedback to help players assess whether their form is correct. The step detection system, utilizing an AI camera and sensors, analyses the player’s movement trajectory and footwork, allowing coaches to design engaging challenges that motivate players to practice. Finally, the cloud platform integrates all training data and uses deep learning and 3D human pose estimation technology to generate personalized performance reports, providing tailored instructions and adaptive training suggestions based on the player’s performance.

With the smart rackets, players can measure the speed and strength of their swings, and their data can be compared within teams.
Professor Wang states: "By combining inertial measurement signals with AI, we can identify different types of shots. Additionally, AI-powered motion analysis helps determine whether the player's footwork is correct. The application of AI not only makes training more precise but also significantly boosts players' interest in practicing. The AI-powered shuttlecock launcher is like a coach's reliable assistant, perfectly catering to each player's needs and enhancing the efficiency of court usage . Through advanced technology and data-driven training, trainees can gain a clearer understanding of their strengths and weaknesses, set specific goals to challenge themselves, and work toward becoming future stars!”
Professor Wang further explains that this AIoT badminton system meets the demands of sports science for precise movement and digital parameter analysis. By quantifying performance indicators, trainees can clearly see their progress in both skill and physical fitness. This innovative model highlights the limitless possibilities of integrating AI with the sports industry. It not only brings new commercial value and learning experiences to training facilities and sports programs but also creates a safer, more efficient, and futuristic environment for badminton enthusiasts. The young participants found the technology-enhanced training both exciting and fun.

Participants found the high-tech training interesting and entertaining.
This year, NCKU Sports Winter Camp kicks off on January 21 and runs for six days. With the integration of the AIoT badminton training system and the cloud platform, each participant enjoys a tailored training program and receives instant, professional, and personalized coaching. Coaches can also use data from the system to quickly assess players' progress and adjust training methods or programs, creating an efficient and supportive learning environment. The organizers hope to further integrate technology into campuses and the sports industry, inspiring more young students to experience the exciting world of AI-driven sports. With the help of this cutting-edge AIoT badminton training system, participants can immerse themselves in a futuristic sports environment, explore their potential, push their limits, and become shining badminton stars in the future!
