這次吸引到來自 13 個國家、29 個學校選派之頂尖大學之合作學校學生,創下成大國際暑期學校合作學校數量最多紀錄
This year, NCKU AISSM Semiconductor Summer School offers two courses. More than half of the international students have enrolled in both. The second course has 57 students from 13 countries, including Canada, the Czech Republic, Italy, India, Japan, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, Thailand, Taiwan, the United States, and Vietnam.

The NCKU AISSM Semiconductor Summer School offers a comprehensive introduction to semiconductor supply chain technology. Starting on July 28, it welcomed more international visiting students from Europe, the United States, Canada, and Japan. A total of 57 outstanding science and engineering students are participating in the advanced training courses at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), a key academic collaborator for the Southern Taiwan Science Park.

Taiwan boasts the world's most complete semiconductor industry cluster and professional division of labor. This session focuses on equipping students with essential entry-level skills in key technologies, integrating academic, industrial, and humanistic education. This year, the program attracted students from 13 countries and 29 top universities, setting a record for the number of partner schools in the international summer school, affirming NCKU's achievements in international collaboration.

Following the previous session of the chip design courses, the NCKU AISSM continues with the five areas of its degree programs, offering students professional introductions to program features, advanced technologies, and industry trends within a week. Students will visit the NARLabs TSRI, top semiconductor companies and institutions such as Macronix, ASE, Hsinchu and Tainan Science Parks, and enjoy a cultural tour of Kaohsiung.

Today's opening ceremony was hosted by Dean Su, Yen-kuin of the NCKU AISSM, with Vice President for International Affairs Hsieh Sun-Yuan delivering a welcome speech. VP Hsieh expressed his acknowledgement to the close ties between the NCKU AISSM and the industry, and international partner schools in talent cultivation and research collaboration. Special recognition was given to Professor Takakura Kenichiro from Kumamoto National College of Technology, who led students to participate for the second time. The NCKU AISSM signed a memorandum of understanding with Kumamoto Kosen in November 2023, committing to the mutual prosperity of the semiconductor industries in Taiwan and Japan, and striving to cultivate students with strong international competitiveness.

Dean of AISSM, Prof. Yan-Kuin Su delivers a speech

Dean Su warmly welcomed the international students, emphasizing the two key directions and trends in semiconductor technology development at the NCKUAISSM: advanced process and materials, and advanced packaging with heterogeneous integration technology. In advanced process and materials, NCKU is currently focusing on the development of special transistor structures and the research and development of compound semiconductor materials and power devices. On the other hand, the challenge in advanced packaging and heterogeneous integration lies in combining small chips such as CPUs, GPUs, MEMS, RF, or silicon photonics into 3D stacked system-on-chips for higher performance. Dean Su encouraged students to seize the opportunity to learn firsthand about semiconductor technology development in Taiwan and introduced Tainan's various delicacies and famous cultural attractions, inviting students to explore and experience the charm of Tainan and Taiwan during their limited time here.

This year marks the third edition of the NCKU International Semiconductor Summer School, combining short-term training projects with semiconductor scholarships. The courses cover five major areas: chip design, semiconductor process, semiconductor packaging and testing, key material technologies, and smart and sustainable manufacturing. This year's partner countries and schools include Arizona State University in the United States, the University of Ottawa in Canada, Kumamoto University and Kumamoto Kosen in Japan, Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands, Warsaw University of Technology in Poland, Brno University of Technology in the Czech Republic, and Vilnius University in Lithuania, setting a milestone for NCKU's international reach. The goal is to recruit outstanding international students in the semiconductor field to study in Taiwan, promoting the concept of "Taiwan's participation, global win-win," and continuously providing opportunities for knowledge exchange and the potential for international industry-academia collaboration.
