NCKU rock climbing field opens to students and public
(中央社訊息服務20121004 10:46:43)A rock climbing field at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) is one of the best rock-climbing venue in southern Taiwan with its geometric design full of artistic touch attracting NCKU climbing team and people who like the thrills.
NCKU rock climbing club has drawn a big crowd at a student club exhibit recently and many freshmen have shown interest in joining the club to try out the skills.
Located in the north side of the International Conference Hall at Kuang-Fu Campus, NCKU rock climbing field is 15 meters high and 6.8 meters wide, with 5.92 meters maximum cliff prominent and total climbing area of 150 square meters.
Built with the materials from Bulgaria, the world-class artificial climbing field certificated with European standard can offer 4 climbers enough space to climb on at the same time.
The members of the rock climbing club used to be trained at a small-scale climbing site at the Student Activity Center, according to Yeh-Ting Tsao, the leader of the club, and after students’ petition to the administration, the new construction of the rock climbing field officially opened during NCKU’s 80th anniversary celebrations last November.
The rock climbing field, designed by club members and alumni, is co-managed by NCKU climbing club and Extracurricular Activities Division.
NCKU rock climbing field opens to the public every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Courses are also offered on essential rock climbing skills, according to Tsao.
To meet the teaching and learning needs of the faculty and students at NCKU, the field will be the venue for holding international events like College Cup, rock climbing instructor training camp, national competitions, and Asia Cup climbing competitions, according to the university.
