NCKU unveils its first student-made short film

N&M Studio, amateur filmmaker convened by 18 students from National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), southern Taiwan, has recently showcased its short film, “Call Number,” aimed at highlighting the connection between the school’s library and the students’ daily life on campus.

The 11-minute film teemed with enchanting atmosphere and lovely designs in and surrounded NCKU library has already attracted great attention online and will continue to be shared through the webpage and YouTube as well.

“Call Number” describes a story about two like-minded teenagers who go to library frequently and try to pursue their dreams by accessing to the resources provided by the library.

Ching-Chun Luo from Information Services Division of NCKU library says that she always expects students to further apply the knowledge and function of the library, and through the short film produced by N&M Studio more visitors are expecting to come and discover the beauty of the library.

N&M Studio won Audience Award and Jury’s Special Mention at The 39 Hours of Tainan Project (39HTP), a short film contest hosted by the Culture Bureau of Tainan City Government, in June with their film titled “In Your Shot, I Wanna Say,” which has been viewed by over 27,000 people on YouTube.

Heng-Wei Chiu, director of N&M Studios, says that they have prepared to shoot this film for 2 months and finally starts shooting the film in August and complete it in early September.

Chiu expects “Call Number” may not only bring some new thoughts and visions towards the library for students in NCKU but set up as an example for the following film shooting for NCKU library.

This is the first time for the team to take on a filming project from school, which is a totally new experience, according to Cheng-Feng Yang, the producer, adding that completing the project is defiantly like a dream come true.

“Call Number” has been broadcasted in NCKU Freshmen Orientation Camp on September 15th and won the big applause among the freshmen; moreover, a premiere was held by NCKU library on September 20th. People who are interested in watching the film may log on YouTube to check it out after September 25th.
