A creative model exhibition currently held at the Art Center of National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), southern Taiwan, features more than 200 pieces of models from well-known model designers and amateurs as well.

The exhibition, supplied by a group of model enthusiasts from all over Taiwan, has displayed the subculture surrounding Japanese anime and manga creations.

In the exhibition, the 4th Southern Model Fantasia, one of the attractions is the debut appearance of model collections of doll, Gundam and the battle scenes designed by Taiwanese artists.

Moreover, the cosplay arranged once every three days during the exhibition is going to be another draw for the crowd, according to the organizer from the university.

Guided tours and workshops are also arranged for helping the audience to get a closer look at how a model is produced by a designer and a better understanding about the so-call model culture.

The display includes model dolls made of PVC plastic, cards themed by American movie and comic-book characters, toy collectibles from Hong Kong, Cashapon from Japan, car models, robots and so on.

“Models are not simply toys but designs involve originality,” according to Tang-Yu Chang from the Department of Electrical Engineering at NCKU, adding that when people brought the box of model parts from the stores, the life of the model begins to form through the applying of original ideas and imagination.

Chang, the convener of the exhibition, expresses his gratitude to NCKU’s student-based support and necessary assistance in arranging the event and calls on people who are interested in the model-making to come join the fun.

The exhibition opens to the public for no admission fee and will run through September 16th.
