NCKU hosts NCKU-AA Intensive Workshop at Tainan 2012 to propose urban plan of public sites

NCKU-AA Intensive Workshop at Tainan 2012 convened 12 professors and 62 students from National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Taiwan, and Architectural Association School of Architecture (AA), United Kingdom, to come up with a comprehensive redevelopment strategic plan regarding public land use of Tainan City.
The workshop held at Department of Urban Planning, NCKU, from July 2 to July 11 had proposed a great length of commentary to the framework of underground railway project of Tainan City in 2011.
With the previous collaborative experience, the tutor team has the confidence to embrace fruitful result during the 10-day cooperative practice.
The subjects of the workshop are four public sites at Tainan City, namely 96 Military dependents’ village, TzuChiang Military dependents’ village, JingZhong 3rd Military dependents’ village, and Ordnance Accessories Factory.
It’s a great opportunity for Tainan City to revive the city with a feasible plan regarding theses four areas and the 10-day workshop is expecting to stimulate creativity and come up with practical measures, according to Jorge Fiori, co-director of the Housing and Urbanism Program of the Architectural Association Graduate School.
Spatial planning and spatial quality redesign should be taken into account in urban planning, said Hugo Hinsley, AA co-director, adding that the strategic plans of the four military sites located at Tainan City, a city full of history, may consider both the characteristics of local community and future development with imagination and creativity.
Through the feedback and the brainstorming with overseas talents, the workshop is aimed to stimulate imagination and innovation with the team work to prospect of Tainan City future development and to provide practical commentary to the local government, according to Ko-Wan Tsou, chairperson and professor of Urban Planning, NCKU.
