A transplant team led by Dr. Po-Chang Lee, Professor of Surgery, Medical College, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), southern Taiwan, and Chairperson of the Board, Taiwan Organ Registry and Sharing Center, held a book release conference on May 23th in the hall of NCKU Hospital to campaign for organ donation among the public.

As the message of “to donate organ is to give life” underlying the new book, Every Step Counts, compiled by Dr. Lee, the propaganda for organ donation is a pressing matter and the shortage of organs available for transplants is the current challenge faced by critical care medicine.

NCKU President Hwung-Hweng Hwung who is also the publisher of the book said the good intention to donate organs to people in need is an act of charity and a realization of spreading out the love and hope to the world.

Organ transplantation enables patients not only to continue the life but to lead a more fulfilling or productive existence, President Hwung added, and by means of releasing Every Step Counts, the public may be aware of the issue and the readers may have an impact on promoting organ donation in Taiwan.

The issue of organ donation has drawn much attention recently worldwide and the connection between the donor and the recipient portrayed the most appealing picture of passing down the torch of life, according to Chyi-Her Lin, Dean of NCKU Medical College, adding that the organ donation is in accordance to the spirit of giving and new beginnings.

Every Step Counts reveals the experience, expectations and aspirations of transplant experts from Taiwan, Hong Kong and China. The reflections and feedback from kidney transplant patients are included in the book as well.
