NCKU sets up telescopes to see an annular solar eclipse on May 21

An annular solar eclipse is expecting on May 21st and on that day from 6:40am to 7:20am people in southern Taiwan could go to the Department of Physics at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), southern Taiwan, where 10-cm telescopes will be set up and paper glasses will be ready for distributing to people for observing the ring-shaped eclipse.

According to the Central Weather Bureau, the eclipse will occur at 4:56am on May 21 and end at 10:49am the same day, with the annular solar eclipse expected to take place over Taiwan at about 6:10am.

Although the annular eclipse will be seen only in northern Taiwan, people in Tainan still can see a partial eclipse which is to cover up about 90% of the sun and the changing process of the eclipse can be seen by constant observation, according to Physics Department, NCKU.

On May 21st NCKU will set up signposts in Cheng-Kung Campus near University Road to direct people to the Observatory at Department of Physics. People interested in viewing this rare astronomical phenomena please feel free to come.
