Tainan, Taipei, 19 March 2012
Hoda Fakour, a doctoral student of Environmental Engineering at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), southern Taiwan, and her husband, Moslem Imani, a doctoral student of Geomatics at NCKU have expressed gratitude to their advisors at NCKU for offering them invaluable opportunity to fulfill their dream of getting PhD degrees in Taiwan.
The Iranian couple, both 27 and married to each other for 4 years, were always dreaming about getting higher education and studying abroad to expand life experience.
The peaceful environment, low living cost and family-oriented custom derived from Taiwanese society are the incentives for choosing NCKU at Taiwan as the ultimate place to live up to our dream, according to the couple.
Dr. Tsair-Fuh Lin, Fakour’s advisor, distinguished professor and chair of Environmental Engineering, NCKU, had interviewed Fakour twice through webcam 2 years ago and very much impressed by her fluent English and aggressive attitude toward her own research and decided to accept Fakour’s application, offering her full scholarship and help with her husband’s application at Geomatics as well.
With its world ranking relatively high among other universities in Asia and scientific research quiet well-recognized by the world, NCKU is a prestigious university for international students to carry on higher study, according to Fakour and Imani.
The 2-year leaning experience at department of Environmental Engineering is fruitful, said Fakour, for professors are very supportive, considerate to the international students and 80% of the courses are in English and relative to the research topic she had chosen.
The number of international students of Environmental Engineering is more than 50, taking up to a total of 20%, according to Dr. Lin, and with the percentage of international students so high, cultural exchange is vibrant and mutual respect to cultural differences is highlighted.
The scholarship and grant offered by NCKU is enough for us to cover basic expanses, said Imani happily adapted to the new environment, even though we stay far away from home, our life in Tainan is easy and comfortable for the weather is agreeable, food are tasty and people are friendly.
13 Iranian students are currently studying at NCKU and one Iranian professor of Physics had taught at NCKU for years, said Fakour planning her future career as a professor to serve her country. enditem/
