NCKU student leadership camp to learn communication skills

A total of 29 outstanding students selected from college of engineering, college of electrical engineering and computer science, and college of planning and design at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), southern Taiwan, are participating in a winter leadership camp held by NCKU from February 16 to 17 where they learn the skills of effective communication required of a future business leader.

Prof. Pao-Shan Yu, dean of college of engineering, NCKU, greets the participants by noting that, the camp featuring “learning by doing” is effective to develop your communication skills and leadership.

The program of the camp aims to equip the participants with leadership and communication skills. Strategic planning, disaster recovery planning, and responding to conflicts are the main teambuilding training courses to improve the skills.

The team led by Joyce Yang, supervisor of talent management service center, Wenetgroup Co., Ltd. organizes this leadership camp who brainstorms the participants with questions like “if you were a boss, what kind of personal traits are preferable for you,” and students’ answers vary from passionate to having good communication skills.

According to Yang, good communication and leadership are learned best from group activities and by interpersonal interaction the participants are aware of any obstacles blocking the way of successful communication and the experience gained in the camp enable the participants to explore the mechanism successful leaders used to forge a profitable business tie.
