A delegation from Kyushu Institute of Technology (Kyutech), Japan, visited Vice President Huey-Jen Su of National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Taiwan, on Tuesday.

NCKU Vice President Huey-Jen Su expressed warmest welcome to the delegation and wished that this visit was the beginning of future collaborations.

To better facilitate the exchange of ideas, also present were Associate Vice President Jar-Ferr Yang of Research and Development, Deputy Director Shean-Jen Chen of Research and Services Headquarter and Associate Vice President Jen-Sue Chen for International Affairs.

Leader of the delegation, Vice-President Hiroyuki Kage, also the director of Kyutech’s Collaboration Center, said, “This second visit of his to NCKU was a follow-up to his first visit a year ago, when he found that the two universities showed similar strengths in terms of their strong ties with the industry.”

Prof. Shinichi Kukuchi from Kyutech Collaboration Center pointed out, “Kyutech and NCKU place strong emphasis on industry-academia-government cooperation and employ professors from industrial and government background. Both universities have already laid excellent foundations for future collaboration.”

Kyutech was established in 1907 in Kitakyushu, one of Japan’s four major industrial sites. As the city prospered due to its industry, air pollution has become an urgent issue. To deal with this issue, Kyutech has closely collaborated with local industries for the sake of environmental protection.

Kyutech Vice President Hiroyuki Kage believed that NCKU excels at the research and industry-academia applications of electrical engineering, computer science and biomedicine and he looks forward to cooperating with NCKU in these fields.

According to Associate Vice President Jen-Sue Chen for International Affairs, NCKU currently has more than 200 exchange students from 57 universities in 16 countries, including Tohoku University, Osaka University, Waseda University and Chiba University in Japan.

In the meeting, both parties have reached a mutual understanding on potential future collaboration. A cooperation agreement may be signed after details are further discussed and confirmed.

In addition to Vice-President Hiroyuki Kage, the Kyutech delegation included Prof. Munetaka Saeki, Prof. Hisafumi Yamada and Prof. Shinichi Kukuchi from Collaboration Center, and Manager Osamu Takai of International Affairs.
