To increase students’ knowledge of international affairs and expand their international perspectives, Student Union of National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan, and Students’ Union of University of Macau have jointly organized Macau-Tainan Model United Nations 2011 (MOTAIMUN 2011) from February 15th to 16th at International Conference Hall, Kuang-Fu Campus, NCKU.

More than 200 students from National Cheng Kung University, University of Macau, National Taiwan University, National Chengchi University, Taipei First Girls’ High School, Taipei Municipal Zhongshan Girls’ High School and National Taichung First Senior High School have attended.

In addition to learning professional knowledge, students need to cultivate leadership skills, including communicating with others, imagining from other people’s perspective, accepting their opinions and convincing them.

President Hwung believed that by discussing and exploring the world issues of energy, poverty and war, students can further understand the urgency of these problems that exist among people.

NCKU Vice-President for Academic Affairs Chii-Jeng Lin trusted that through discussion and exchange, students can contribute to the eradication of poverty and hunger and become world leaders in the future.

According to the Secretary-General Cindy Chi-Jui Lee, nowadays students in Taiwan often lack the opportunities to participate in international events, thus NCKU Student Union organized Macau-Tainan Model United Nations 2011 for students to act as representatives of specific countries and investigate issues on behalf of their representing nations.

Macau-Tainan Model United Nations 2011 is divided into Security Council and General Assembly, targeting topics of the development of renewable and sustainable energy and the eradication of poverty and hunger.
