Tianjin Municipal Education Delegation Visits NCKU President Lai

Tianjin Municipal Education Delegation from mainland China, led by Director Run-Cheng Jin of Tianjin Municipal Education Commission, has visited President Michael Ming-Chiao Lai of National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan, on December 17th in the Office of the President, Yun-Ping Building, Kuang-Fu Campus.
In the meeting, NCKU President Michael Ming-Chiao Lai has given a briefing on the characteristics of National Cheng Kung University and his personal research expertise, leaving a deep impression on the mind of Director Run-Cheng Jin, and Director Jin in response has invited President Lai to visit universities in Tianjin Municipal to establish a comprehensive mutual cooperative relationship.
Director Run-Cheng Jin of Tianjin Municipal Education Commission, a government organization responsible for managing the education system in Tianjin, such as all universities, high schools, middle schools and primary schools, expressed, “The purpose of the trip is to visit several universities in Taiwan, hoping to develop new routes of communication and promote student exchange and scientific research cooperation.”
Director Jin also revealed, “In the past days, we have visited universities as well as educational institutions, including National Taiwan University, National Tsing Hua University and Academia Sinica. Before we arrived at National Cheng Kung University, we had sightseeing in Chihkan Tower. Tainan has such a different atmosphere from that of Northern Taiwan.”
“National Cheng Kung University is the second-biggest comprehensive university in Taiwan. Its graduates are the favorite of the enterprise and students have down-to-earth attitude, excellent team spirit as well as good moral ethics. Many NCKU graduates are high-level management personnel in companies, and they play an important role in Taiwan’s industrial and economy,” said President Michael Ming-Chiao Lai as he introduced the characteristics of NCKU to the guests.
President Lai believed, “Cross-strait student exchange is important to the youth today. On one hand, the vigorous attitude of students from mainland China should have a positive effect on students in Taiwan. On the other hand, the learning of different culture and wisdom in Taiwan should also have a positive effect on the students from mainland China. The positive influences are the function of education.”
Currently, there are approximately 70 exchange students from mainland China in NCKU, and about 25 NCKU exchange students in universities in mainland China, such as Tianjin University and Nankai University, every year.
Director Run-Cheng Jin has personally invited President Lai to visit universities in Tianjin, including Tianjin University, Nankai University, Tianjin Medical University, Tianjin University of Technology and Civil Aviation University of China, urging both sides to establish a comprehensive cooperative relationship.
