To propagate the spirit of compassion and equality of Buddhism and publicize the concept of filial piety, the cross-school Buddhist Association has organized Buddhist Relics Exhibition Tour on December 13th in the Library, Cheng-Kung Campus, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan.

The Buddhist Association consists of members from National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), National University of Tainan, Southern Taiwan University, Tainan University of Technology, Chia Nan University of Pharmacy and Science, Far East University, Kun Shan University, Chang Jung Christian University, Leader University and Chung Hwa University of Medical Technology.

NCKU President Michael Ming-Chiao Lai expressed in his opening remark, “The educational goals of Buddhism and a university are very similar. In recent years, National Cheng Kung University has been stressing on comprehensive education, hoping that every student can cultivate both excellent professional skills and excellent humanistic accomplishments. In fact, humanity is a living attitude and a person with humanistic accomplishments is an individual who respects lives. I believe only individuals with the right mind and heart can contribute to the society, and they are the type of persons each university is trying to cultivate.”

Dean Andy Y. G. Fuh of NCKU College of Science revealed, “The establishment of Buddhist Association gives students peace in their minds so they may have higher learning efficiency. It is also helpful to their interpersonal skills during each stage of their life. Thus, I believe the goal of the Buddhist Association is similar to the educational goal set by President Lai, which is humanistic accomplishments and social caring.”

Vice Abbot of Chung Tai Chan Monastery, an alumnus of NCKU, said, “In a civilized world, spiritual civilization and material civilization are both important. The development of modern science and technology has resulted in the development of material civilization. However, spiritual civilization has not caught up with material civilization, and it has started to decline slowly. Material living cannot promise safety and happiness. Ancient Chinese cultural thoughts and Buddhist thoughts are our real treasure, even though we need to find a modern way for regular people to understand them.”

The Buddhist Relics Exhibition Tour, displaying the historical literary quotations, traditions, statues, portraits and musical instruments of Buddhism, will be held from December 13th to 17th, 9am to 9pm, in the basement of the Library, Cheng-Kung Campus, NCKU, for the visitors to explore Buddhism from the multi-perspective of Buddhist art.
