During the years of my presidency, even though I could not attend each meeting, I have never missed the staff meeting and the gender equity meeting. I understand that every issue discussed in the meetings or every decision made in the meetings has great influence on the teaching faculties and administrative personnel. I hope to take this opportunity where people gather together to brainstorm and share ideas to make gender equity truly rooted in the campus.”
Mr. Ching-Shui Lo of the Student Affairs Committee, Ministry of Education, revealed, “The active participation of the conference indicates that this event organized by National Cheng Kung University is extremely meaningful and it also illustrates that the topic of gender equity has been taken seriously by each school. In fact, the work of gender equity education is ongoing. Today, as I read the newspaper, I saw an article about sexual bullying which happened in Changhua. The kids did not know their behavior has breached the law, thus we have to continue put in more efforts for the promotion of gender equity education.”
In the 8th National Education Conference, gender equity education has been accepted as an important element of civil accomplishments, where educational units have to carry out the six strategies in the White Paper of gender equity education published by the Ministry of Education on March 8th, 2010, hoping to bring better picture of the promotion of gender equity education in schools.
Mr. Ching-Shui Lo also said, “I have seen achievements of gender equity education promoted by many schools today. For example, National Cheng Kung University has made excellent achievements in environmental-friendly bridges and constructions and clubs. In addition, other participating schools have their own unique characteristics of the achievements of promoting gender equity education. Through sharing experience and observing the advantages of other schools, the promotion of gender equity education can gradually advance, allowing children to learn and grow in a truly friendly environment of gender equity.”
