UCSD Prof. Eduardo Macagno Discussed Neuroscience and Architecture with NCKU President Lai
Tainan, Taiwan, December 7th, 2010
Prof. Eduardo Macagno from University of California, San Diego, United States, has been invited to deliver speeches on cross-disciplinary biotechnological academic themes in National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan, and has visited NCKU President Michael Ming-Chiao Lai on December 7th to discuss the framework of cross-disciplinary administration and research and the future trend of cross-disciplinary cooperation of neuroscience and architecture.
NCKU President Michael Ming-Chiao Lai pointed out, “For a long time, National Cheng Kung University has devoted itself to cross-disciplinary cooperation, hoping that in the future, research and organization will achieve new breakthrough and integration of the basic physic principles of architecture and the advanced technologies of neuroscience can contribute to a high-quality environment for the teachers and students.”
Prof. Eduardo Macagno, the founder of Division of Biological Sciences at University of California, San Diego, mentioned, “The Division of Biological Sciences is a center for cross-disciplinary, cross-school and industry-academia cooperation, which currently has 90 faculty members, 43 adjunct faculties, 88 research laboratories, 2 organized research units, 5,500 undergraduate students, 80 master and non-degree students, 198 doctoral graduate students, and 170 postdoctoral fellows, and is also a division with the most sufficient facilities and resources in the university.”
“An innovative new Academy of Neuroscience for Architecture was formed in San Diego in 2003 by the San Diego Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, aiming to promote and advance knowledge that links neuroscience research to a growing understanding of human responses to the built environment,” said Prof. Eduardo Macagno, the authoritative expert on cell and development biology and also the President of the Academy of Neuroscience for Architecture.
Not since the contributions made by physics at the end of the 19th century has science been so well prepared to expand the knowledge base available to the profession of architecture.
Academy of Neuroscience for Architecture is the only organization in the world devoted to the goal of building intellectual bridges between neuroscience and architecture, and not only will architects benefit from the knowledge base made possible by neuroscience, but future generations of school children, hospital patients, office workers, and worshippers in sacred places will have their environments more carefully tuned to their needs and desires.
In addition to visiting President Lai, Prof. Eduardo Macagno, who has rich academic administrative experience and fruitful cross-disciplinary knowledge, has delivered a speech of “UC San Diego as Source and Driver for Innovation in San Diego” on December 6th and another speech of “The Formation of Dendritic Arbors By Neurons and Other Cells” on the 7th in National Cheng Kung University.
The University of California, San Diego (UCSD), established in 1959, having approximately 29,000 students, is a public research university located in La Jolla, San Diego, California, in the United States, one of the ten general campuses of the University of California system, and currently ranked the fourteenth best university in the world by the Academic Ranking of World Universities.
