Inauguration of NCKU Alumni Association Center
Tainan, Taiwan, November 10th, 2010
Prior to the 79th Anniversary of National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), the NCKU Alumni Association, an important communication bridge between the university and its alumni, is inaugurated on November 10th in Zenda Suites, Sheng-Li Campus, National Cheng Kung University, Tainan, Taiwan, and hundreds of alumni have returned to their alma mater to celebrate the inauguration of the NCKU Alumni Association Center.
NCKU President Michael Ming-Chiao Lai expressed, “It is a special day today because NCKU Alumni Association Center has moved to a new home, a permanent home. I hope alumni can often come back to their alma mater, visit their former teachers and classmates, and care about the future development of their alma mater. The new home of NCKU Alumni Association Center is located on the fourth floor of Zenda Suites, and it can provide nearby service to alumni who return to their alma mater.”
President Lai also mentioned, “The first three floors of the Zenda Suites include shops and conference rooms, the fourth floor is the Alumni Association Center and floors above the fifth floor are hotel rooms. The inner design, decoration and material costs were all donated by alumni and friends of NCKU.”
President Lai emphasized, “As I have said many times before, alumni are the soul of a university. The number of the alumni of NCKU has reached over 140,000. They are not only the soul of the university, but they are also the strong supporters of the university progressing toward an internationally top university.”
To solidify the power of alumni, National Cheng Kung University has established NCKU Alumni Association Center in 1990 and upgraded the Center to a first-level unit in 1996.
The NCKU Alumni Association Center aims to coordinate the worldwide Alumni Associations in order to build a strong alumni network and facilitate the further development of the university, hoping to unite alumni who are often highly influential so that the visionary goals of NCKU may be achieved.
The Center provides high quality and effective services and care about the alumni. Services provided by the Center include establishing and maintaining NCKU alumni database, providing free email service for alumni, organizing reunion activities for the alumni worldwide, strengthening the academic and technological interactions between the alumni and the university, issuing statements and certificates, and awarding outstanding alumni for their achievements.
Director Shyh-Yu Shaw of NCKU Alumni Association Center expressed, “In the future, NCKU Alumni Association Center, the bridge between the university and its alumni, still has more tasks to complete, including establishing a complete alumni database to strengthen the contacts between alumni, creating small amount donation methods to promote the interactions between the university and its alumni, promoting industrial cooperation to strengthen the cooperation between alumni’s enterprises and their alma mater, as well as encouraging overseas and domestic outstanding alumni to come back and contribute to their alma mater to promote the internationalization of the university.”
In addition, the NCKU Alumni Association Center has planned an exhibition which compiled the historical materials of the Center and displayed the items and articles.
