NCKU Held Teachers’ Day Celebration on September 27th to Console Teachers’ Hard Work
Tainan, Taiwan, September 27th, 2010
To console and commend teachers’ hard work, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan, has held Teachers’ Day Celebration on September 27th in the Basement Conference Room of NCKU Library by preparing cuisines and presenting various awards, including Excellent-Teaching Award, General Education Award and Long-Service Award, to all the outstanding faculty teachers.
NCKU President Michael Ming-Chiao Lai expressed, “It’s an annual and important event that we praise senior excellent teachers in Teachers’ Day Celebration. I’ve been a teacher since 1973 and I believe teacher is a holy profession. With my years of teaching experience, a teacher’s job is to educate the younger generation and pass down everything you know, hoping they’ll become better than you and even become your competitor in the future. Thus, I believe teacher is a self-satisfying job. By dedicating to the next generation selflessly, you’ll be rewarded personally as well.”
President Lai also mentioned, “NCKU is a research university. Inevitably, a research university usually emphasizes more on research rather than teaching. Hoping to change this attitude and value both teaching and research, we’ve established Center for Faculty Development and Academy of Educators, NCKU, to assist teachers’ teaching and award the honorary title of Fellow. I sincerely hope teachers with the honorary title of Fellow can devote themselves to teaching, an important key to the development of future generation.”
On behalf of all the awarding teachers, Prof. Jeng-Feng Kuo of Department of Chemical Engineering, expressed, “Under the leadership of President Michael Ming-Chiao Lai, NCKU has become one of the top universities in the world. I believe under the excellent teaching environment, every teacher can bring their strengths into full play. I also expect NCKU to continue progress toward an internationally renowned university. This is what every faculty teacher should work for and be proud of.”
