2010 SATU Presidents’ Forum 2nd Student Business Plan Competition Opening Ceremony Held on September 28th
Tainan, Taiwan, September 28th, 2010
The opening ceremony of the 2010 SATU Presidents’ Forum 2nd Student Business Plan Competition was held on September 28th in International Hall, Kuang-Fu Campus, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan, where 34 students from 6 countries, including India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam, have attended to participate in the final round of the competition.
NCKU President Michael Ming-Chiao first congratulated the students for being selected to participate in the final round of the 2010 SATU Student Business Plan Competition.
President Lai said, “You were chosen because you proved yourself during the preliminary round of competition with your essay, and we are looking forward to the amazing things you can do together as a group. During the course of this week, it is my greatest wish for you to not only learn something new, but leave here having created new and unexpected bonds of friendship with your teammates and other finalists.”
President Lai also revealed, “This is the 2nd Student Business Plan Competition held by SATU. The first was held at Mahidol University in 2007. I am pleased that this year we are able to conduct it on National Cheng Kung University’s campus. This competition is aimed to stimulate creativity, inspire, and challenge your mind. The next few days will be intense, but I believe the result will be fruitful and rewarding.”
In the closing of his speech, President Lai encouraged the students, “I hope you realize that you are the future caretakers of this world. While you engage in your future endeavors, regardless of occupation, do not overlook the world that surrounds you, the society you live in or the interests of global humanity.”
Student Mark Lin from the Department of Political Science at National Taiwan University, Taiwan, the only Taiwanese who entered the final around of the competition, expressed, “I’m honored to participate in the competition held at NCKU. I believe this event can help me understand the intimate relationships between Taiwan and Southeast Asian countries and allow me to make acquaintance with students from other countries, such as Indonesia, India and Thailand, thus broadening my global perspective and enhancing my knowledge of Southeast Asian countries.”
Student Suchada Vajanapanich from the Department of International Business Management at Mahidol University International College, Thailand, mentioned, “By getting and learning something, I believe the competition will give me friendship, experiences and connections that I don’t think I can get anywhere else from here. So far, I’ve made friends in my team, including member from Indonesia, India, Malaysia and Vietnam, and we get along very well.”
Student Ivan Aditirta Kosasih from Institute of International Management at National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan, revealed, “My reason to entered the competition is to know better about the green technology around the world, so I can improve the environment in Indonesia and do business that provides green technology and green engineering. What I expect to learn from the program is connectivity with friends from other countries and how to better my future business plan in Indonesia.”
The mission of the Student Business Plan Competition this year is to continue academic cooperation between students in Taiwan and Southeast Asian countries by creating a challenging learning environment. Any and all opportunities of intercultural experiences and interactions with fellow peers from different countries and socio-economic backgrounds are invaluable.
Over the course of a three day competition, students, along with their newly-formed teammates, will work together quickly and efficiently to put together an innovative business plan. This plan will cater to the needs of a company while also addressing the issue of sustainability.
