NCKU Peking Opera Camp Invites Renowned Actress Hai-Ming Wei
Tainan, Taiwan, June 30th, 2010
Art Center at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan, has invited renowned Peking Opera actress Hai-Ming Wei to give free lectures of the fundamental posing and singing techniques of Peking Opera in the two-week Peking Opera Camp from July 12th to July 23rd in Art Square of Student Activity Center, Kuang-Fu Campus, NCKU.
Since the beginning of registration, many Peking Opera fans have registered, expecting to witness the elegant demeanor of the master, learn the techniques of Peking Opera and experience the essence of the art.
NCKU Art Center expressed, “The emphasis of the Peking Opera Camp is on the practical learning of postures and vocals of Peking Opera. We have also invited actress Chia-Yu Liu of Guo Guang Opera Company to help with the lectures, from standing on feet, posing orchid finger and kicking legs to Peking Opera exercise. Actress Hai-Ming Wei will also teach students vocals of female roles and perform the classical piece of The Drunken Beauty.”
The NCKU Peking Opera Camp is held from July 12th to July 23rd, from Monday to Friday, in Art Square of Student Activity Center. To maintain the teaching quality, every class is limited to 25 people. Anyone who is interested in Peking Opera and is between 18-year-old and 65-year-old is welcome to sign up before July 7th with a deposit of NT$500, which will be returned to students with perfect attendance on the last day.

Hai-Ming Wei, one the most well-known actress of Peking Opera, became the apprentice of Mr. Bao-Jiu Mei, one of China's most distinguished Peking Opera performers, in 1991. She has won numerous and honors, including Best Artist in Asia Award in 1993, Ten Outstanding Young Men Award in 1996, Plum Blossom Award in 1996, The Magnolia Award in 2004 and National Literary Award in 2007.
