National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Taiwan, has awarded Academician Cheng-Sheng Tu and Academician Ing-Kang Ho as Honorary Professors on June 23rd, as President Michael Ming-Chiao Lai personally presented the certificates to Academician Cheng-Sheng Tu and Prof. Tzeng-Horng Leu, Head of the Department of Pharmacology, on behalf of Academician Ing-Kang Ho.
NCKU President Michael Ming-Chiao Lai praised the academic achievements of Academician Cheng-Sheng Tu, “In the future, Academician Cheng-Sheng Tu can share his research achievements with teachers and students at NCKU. This will help elevate the academic standard of National Cheng Kung University. We’re also very pleased and grateful that former Minister Tu of Education, Taiwan, has accepted the certificate of Honorary Professor.”
Academician Cheng-Sheng Tu believed, “NCKU was a regional university in the past. However, it has developed into a national and even an international university in recent years. With its successful experience, NCKU has set an example for many regional universities. NCKU is the leading indicator in Southern Taiwan, playing the role of train locomotive. I expect NCKU to motivate schools in Southern Taiwan to progress. In the future, I’ll continue to learn and hope to have the opportunity to give back to my hometown, in both teaching and research, assisting the academic development of Southern Taiwan.”
Academician Tu had some words of advice for students at NCKU. He said, “Ph.D students should focus on academic research. However, academic research is a long road. One needs to be persistent when engaging in academic research. Master students should cultivate personal specialties. As for undergraduate students, they should strengthen their fundamental abilities and expand their interpersonal relationships.”
