The 2010 Investment Summit, organized by National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), was held on June 14th, 2010, in 62X05 Lecture Room of College of Management at National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan, inviting industrial, academic and financial experts to explore future investment and exchange their thoughts on the prospect of investment in the next half a year while attracting more than 200 audiences.

The experts helped investors to clarify the direction of investment and understand the market risk, thus achieving their expected return on investment, and planed a profitable and secure direction of the investment of NCKU school funds.

NCKU President Michael Ming-Chiao Lai pointed out, “The establishment of school funds is extremely important to a university because the use of a university’s budget will become more flexible and beneficial and prevent waste. However, the current use of school funds still has many restrictions and needs further improvements. The schools funds of many universities in United States have excellent investments. For example, the annual return on investment of Yale University can reach as high as 27% and the annual return on investment of Harvard University has also exceeded 20%. We’re honored to have experts with us today to help us plan a secure and profitable investment of school funds.”

Vice-President Jeng-Ren Chiou for Finance expressed, “Investment is definitely a specialized field which requires experts with professional knowledge and experience to proceed. The investment of school funds is to pursue the highest return on investment under controlled risk. This is one of the top priorities of Office of Finance. Today we have six experts from the investment field here to provide their insights for NCKU teaching and working staff as well as people who’re interested in school funds.”

General Manager Jeff Chang from Cathay Securities Investment Trust Co. pointed out, “The economic growth rate of Emerging Market is obviously higher than that of developed countries and the budget deficit and government debt of developed countries are undeniable. Even thought the population of Emerging Market occupies over 70% of the world, but its global market capitalization only occupies 10%, while its currency has an appreciation trend. The Emerging Market will definitely be the future investment trend.”

The 2010 Investment Summit has invited general managers and deputy managers from Cathay Securities Investment Trust, SinoPac Securities, Fuh Hwa Securities Investment Trust and PineBridge Investments and Associate Prof. Hsien-Fa Lowe from Department of Finance at Feng Chia University to share their insights on global financial and investment state after the financial crisis, the unexpected systematic risk and crisis control of investment market, the expected return on investment and risk planning of asset allocation in the overall environment, the trend prediction of industry sectors, company stocks and financial products, the investment behavior model and the investment strategy formulation, the strategical comparison between institutional investors and individual investors, the understanding of the development of capital market and the strategies of security investment, the investment goal of school funds and the development of university affairs, as well as the detailed analysis of the investment rules and investment planning of school funds.
