National Cheng Kung University sports teams will participate in the 2010 National Intercollegiate Athletic Games from May 7th to May 11th in Stadium, National Taiwan Sport University, Taiwan.

Prior to their expedition, the flag presentation ceremony was hosted by President Michael Ming-Chiao Lai on April 30th in Yun-Ping Building Plaza, Kuang-Fu Campus, NCKU. As the track and field team captain Shin-Yan Wang waved the flag that he received from the hands of President Lai, the 137 team members shouted their slogan together, expecting victories.

President Lai expressed, “It’s a great honor that the students are participating in the competitions on behalf of the university. NCKU is proud of every athlete. I like to exercise myself and I was once a sprinter. Now I maintain the habit of running 6,000 meters everyday. I often see students running on the playground. It’s such a pleasing sight. Exercise doesn’t only stretch your muscles, it also motivate your brain. The research reports of NCKU College of Medicine reveals that the more you exercise the smarter you become. I believe students who exercise more will have better academic success as well.”

President Lai also emphasized, “It will be a great honor to win trophies from sports competitions. However, it’s more important that students put in their best efforts. We’re all winners when we break our own records.”

NCKU representative teams will participate in 9 competitions in the 2010 National Intercollegiate Athlete Games, including badminton, table tennis, tennis, track and field, swimming, golf, taekwondo, judo and fencing. The 137 students are led by President Michael Ming-Chiao Lai and Vice-President for Academic Affairs Ming-Jer Tang.
