The 2010 Taiwan Display Conference Begins on April 29th in NCKU

Tainan, Taiwan, April 27th, 2010

The 2010 Taiwan Display Conference, organized by SID Taipei Chapter, National Cheng Kung University and Chimei Innolux Corporation, begins on April 29th in Electrical Engineering Building, Tzu‐Chiang Campus, National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan.

The conference is one of the major international symposia in Taiwan, which invites national and international experts, compiles nearly 160 papers and attracts more than 370 industrial, academic research figures to explore and discuss the future development of Taiwan’s display technology.

The conference not only invites national and international experts to publish their scientific research achievements and share their thoughts on the industrial status of Taiwan’s display technology, it also organizes poster session on OLED/PLED, TFT, LC, Emissive display/Backlight, LCD, Driving system, Human factor/Color, Flexible display, 3D display, Projection display, Interactive/Touch panel, measuring equipments and technology of production, etc. Chimei Innolux Corporation also sets up display areas to illustrate their research and development achievements, hoping to promote information exchange among industry, academia and research, elevate the quality and quantity of national research and development and expand Taiwan’s capability of display technology.

The invited speakers for the oral session are Dr. Hideo Fujikake, Senior Research Engineer of Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK), Japan, Prof. Shin-Tson Wu, PREP Professor of College of Optics and Photonics, University of Central Florida, USA, Prof. Liang-Chy Chien, Professor of Kent State University, USA, Mr. Jyh-Wen Shiu, Deputy Director of Panel Integration Division 2, Display Technology Center, ITRI, Prof. L. Jay Guo of the University of Michigan, USA, Dr. Chien-Hong Chen, Director of AUO Corporation, Dr. Kuan-Hsu Fan Chiang, Vice-Manager of Himax Display, Dr. Kevin Chuang, Vice President of SWENC Technology Co., Ltd, Dr. Kuang-Rong Lee, Director of R&D and Optoelectronics Business Division, EFUN Technology Co., Ltd, Mr. Chen-Pang Kung, Manager of ITRI, Ms. Chao Hui Wu, Manager of HannStar Display Corporation, Mr. Vincent Wang, Director of AUO Corporation, Dr. Du-Zen Peng, Manager of Chimei Innolux Corporation, Prof. Ya-Chin King, Professor of Institute of Electronics Engineering (ENE), National Tsing Hua University, Dr. Janglin (John) Chen, Vice President and General Director of ITRI, Dr. Chi-Chang Liao, CEO of Cinaflex Technology Co., Ltd, Mr. Albert Chen, Manager of Prime View International Corporation, Prof. Jung-Young Son, Professor of Daegu University, Korea, Dr. Chao-Yuan Chen, Deputy Manager of AUO Corporation, and Dr. Chih-Pin Liao, Associate Engineer of ITRI.

Among them, Prof. Shin-Tson Wu, an internationally renowned scholar in the field of liquid crystal display, has published six authoritative books on display technology and over 350 published papers. He has also been the chief editor of IEEE/OSA Journal of Display Technology.

“Display technology is one of the Two Trillion and Twin Star industrial development plans and long-term national development plans. Display technology industry is made up of middle panel, upstream material components and downstream applications. The applications include cell phones, computer monitors, notebooks and LCD televisions as well as the most recent e-books, touch screens and 3D televisions. Consumers expect the product to be lighter, thinner and more stylish and the functions to have high reaction rate, high resolution and human interface. Thus the overall display technology industry flourishes by satisfying the needs of people,” said Prof. Andy Y. G. Fuh, the Chairman of 2010 Taiwan Display Conference and Dean of College of Science, NCKU.

Japan, Taiwan and Korea are currently the main producers of flat panel display. Taiwan has very outstanding performance in the production of flat panel display. However, because the technology of upstream key components, materials and testing equipments is still predominated by Japan and the investment on display technology of the emerging countries is rapidly increasing, display industry in Taiwan is facing several challenges, including the advancement of technology, the elevation of the autonomy of materials and technology and the development of new display technology.

Chairman Andy Y. G. Fuh expects the display conference to provide an exchange on the research achievements of the theories, techniques, processes, designs, components, materials and equipments in display technology industry, academia and research, in order to promote international talents and mutual visits, elevate the capability of national research and development, establish research cooperation platform, encourage the development of national display technology industry and meet the international standards.
