NCKU College of Engineering Signed Cooperation Agreement with National Instruments on April 14th
Tainan, Taiwan, April 14th, 2010
The College of Engineering, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Taiwan, has signed a cooperation agreement with Taiwan branch of the National Instruments (NI), on April 14th in Auditorium, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Tzu-Chiang Campus, NCKU.
National Instruments has donated LabVIEW software, worth NT$31,961,600, to NCKU College of Engineering in order to promote the concept of Graphical System Design. Both parties expected to accelerate the promotion of development platform of Graphical System Design and the cultivation of academia-industry research talents to elevate students’ employment advantages.
The cooperation agreement was signed by Vice Dean Fong-Chin Su of College of Engineering, NCKU, and Business Manager Gan-Wei Lee of National Instruments. Vice Dean Fong-Chin Su expressed, “National Cheng Kung University plays an important role in cultivating future engineers. Its performance is the best in Taiwan's Higher Education Evaluation and the Academic Ranking of World Universities published by Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China. It is the best choice for National Instruments to pick NCKU. With the international reputation of NI and the outstanding performance of NCKU, the cooperation is a win-win deal. I look forward to the academia-industry cooperation with NI, which will elevate the research achievements of NCKU College of Engineering.”
Business Manager Gan-Wei Lee said, “I feel honored to donate LabVIEW to NCKU, the best university in Southern Taiwan. LabVIEW is the key tool to accelerate development and experiments. Through industrial application, LabVIEW has integrated into the lives of everybody, both visibly and invisibly, including the research and development and experiments of vehicles, motorcycles, the detection and control of food products, the test of cell phones, computers and home appliances, luggage scanner, health indicator measurement equipments, as well as the research and development of solar energy, wind power and LED. Its application level is extensive, covering living supplies, machinery, biomedicine, energy, etc. Many engineering problems that are difficult to solve rely on the application of LabVIEW.”
Mr. Gan-Wei Lee commented, “National Cheng Kung University is most noted for its engineering and medicine. From what I understand, the College Engineering has already applied LabVIEW on the engineering projects of basic electronic circuits teaching, mechanical and electrical integration, wireless signal research, biomedical signal analysis, medical equipment research and development, construction structural analysis, material strain and vibration measurement, underwater acoustic lines measurement, satellite simulation and control, automatic transmission, solar power and so on and has acquired excellent results. To promote LabVIEW and to allow an easier use for lecturers and students, National Instruments decided to donate its best tool to NCKU, the cradle of cultivating the most outstanding engineers in Southern Taiwan. We expect NCKU College of Engineering to develop more engineering achievements and better technologies, thus achieving the common goal of contributing to the society and improving the lives of human beings.”
National Instruments will also work with NCKU College of Engineering on opening hands-on teaching classes. For each semester, professional engineers from NI will come to NCKU to assistant College of Engineering freshman on familiarizing with the interface of LabVIEW software and the basic structure of the program and to encourage them to acquire LabVIEW official certificate.
In the future, 16 departments and workshops from the College of Engineering, including Department of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Mechanical Engineering Workshop and Chemical Engineering Workshop, NCKU, will apply the Graphical System Design tool in their introductory lectures and extend the use to major applications of each department and workshop.
Both parties have agreed to set an annual NI-NCKU Day, inviting outstanding NCKU alumni to share their experience on the most popular industrial applications as well as College of Engineering and College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science laboratories to demonstrate their achievements, in order to share the most advanced academic developments with the teachers and students.
