NCKU Spring Festival Staff Gathering, Music, Dance and Prize
Tainan, Taiwan, February 11th, 2010
Through media broadcasting, the live performance of the stars at the year-end banquet of the enterprise always captures the eyes of its audiences. The “2010 Spring Festival Staff Gathering” held at 9:00am, February 11th, National Cheng Kung University, was just as lively. The dance performance of NCKU President - Academician Michael Ming-Chiao Lai, Secretary General Woei-Shyan Lee, Vice-President Jing-Wen Chen of General Affairs, and colleagues from the Office of General Affairs who dressed in sexy camisoles received laughs and applauds from the near-thousand audiences.
Even though the size of the year-end event held by NCKU could not compare to the one in large enterprises, the performance of the colleagues from the Office of General Affairs and the traditional Chinese lion dance, in addition to the cakes and drinks provided for the faculty and staff and more than one hundred gifts prepared for the draw, was still breathtaking.
The joyful gathering event at NCKU was like a happy family reunion. President Lai performed two masterpieces, “Shin Bu Liau Ching” and “Sung Jiun Ju Lei Di” with his violin; the beautiful melody surrounded the entire stadium and dazzled the listeners. Moreover, Mrs. Ching-Wen Shie, the wife of Prof. Ke-Yang Li, the Ex-Dean of the College of Engineering, performed an opera song called “O Mio Babbino Caro”, blessing all the faculty and staff good fortune like the lyric described. Her beautiful and high-pitched voice brought down the house. The event reached its climax when President Lai personally drew the winners for the first prize, five LCD televisions.
President Michael Ming-Chiao Lai pointed out, the spring festival staff gathering had significance. The homecoming of many retired faculty and staff members symbolized the inheritance of the NCKU ethos. The success at NCKU relies on the efforts of every member, especially the retired colleagues. NCKU has made a huge progress in the past year, being one of the top universities in the World’s Universities’ Ranking. Perhaps many have read in the newspaper or heard from the media of the news that numerous teachers and students have successively received acknowledgements and awards. In addition to the press in Taiwan, international press and CCTV in Mainland China have shot at NCKU a few months ago. As the first university in Taiwan to be introduced to the world, National Cheng Kung University is not only the best academic institution in Taiwan, but also one of the top universities in the world. The credit all went to the efforts and contributions of every faculty and staff member.
The annual spring festival gathering has always been a wonderful tradition at NCKU over the years, as well as an important party for both the faculty and staff. This year, the Chiang Kai-Shek Gymnasium was crowded with nearly one thousand fellow workers, including many retired colleagues. The Office of General Affairs had prepared over a hundred gifts for the drawing event, with the first prize of LCD televisions, and the remaining prizes including notebooks, vehicle satellite navigations, digital cameras, bicycles, high-speed railway tickets, cooperative coupons, etc.
