Darwin Now will be Exhibited in NCKU Museum from April 20th to June 20th

Tainan, TAIWAN, April 21, 2009 --- "A man who dares to waste one hour of time has not discovered the value of life", claimed Charles Darwin, born in 1809 and the author of “On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection“, which was first published in 1859. Year 2009 marks both the bicentenary of his birth and 150 years since his history-transforming book was firstly published. Across science museums worldwide, Darwin is still prevalent. The British Council has collaborated with museums, libraries, universities and research institutes islandwide to present an educational feast themed on Darwin, including exhibitions, 50 or so popular science lectures, drama performances, teachers' workshops, outdoor life camps, video shows, games, student summits and so on to help everyone get a taste in Darwin from diversified approaches.

The NCKU Museum will hold the Darwin Now exhibition showcasing his legend and networks. This special exhibition explores Darwin’s life, especially on how he came up with his ground-breaking theory. Still relevant today, Darwin's ground-breaking yet controversial theory has influenced not only evolution and biology, but also history, theology, philosophy, psychology, geology, economics, etc. Charles Darwin had maintained to correspond with about 2,000 people during his lifetime. Still, near 14,500 letters of his correspondence are kept until today. His network extended to various corners of the world and nearly all lines of life, which helped him acquire precious information on animal and plant species, academic development and research findings. These correspondences gathered information and data to help him formulate his insightful theory.

Darwin, as a man who has made the most of his lifetime, sure can offer something for all tastes and interests. Make sure to visit the NCKU Museum to appreciate this phenomenal thinker and his work!

Apart from Darwin Now exhibition, to enhance the public awareness to ecosystem in NCKU campus, there is also an exhibition regarding ecosystem in NCKU campus by presenting a series of activities and films as well as a photo contest exhibition. NCKU Museum will launch a press conference and opening ceremony for those three exhibitions on April 23rd, 2009.
