House Goes Smart and Humanity in NCKU

Do you ever experience the digital luxurious mansion? Now, you can have the opportunity to open the door by intelligent camera and microphone, brew the coffee by speaking and the lamps light up as soon as you enter the mansion. The NCKU Aspiring Home for Quality Life (優質生活體驗屋) designed and developed by the Center for Technologies of Ubiquitous Computing and Humanity (TOUCH Center) of the National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) , combined its digital technology and the spirit of human-centric, will be open to public every Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00p.m since 7th of November. People who are interested in visiting this NCKU Aspiring Home can make a reservation in advance with the Center for TOUCH and go to the website (www. touch.ncku.edu.tw) for more detailed procedure.
The aim of the TOUCH Center funded by National Science Council from 2008 is to link a variety of experts from cross disciplines including information technology, creative design, architectural arts, psychology, and medical areas to jointly establish a collaboration platform to develop the living products and environments for comfort, security, health and convenience under the considerations of creativity, humanity and technologies. The TOUCH Center will lead the future of smart living technologies in Taiwan.
The human-centric Aspiring Home is located in Chi-Mei building of Zhi-Chang Campus of the NCKU with five main themes: 4D interactive virtual reality room, smart living room, digital study room, smart bedroom, smart kitchen and interactive garden.
The smart living room provides people to enjoy real-time movies, music and games with the technologies of audio, visual detection through multiple microphone and camera arrays. It can also provide people with function of interacting with counterparts in far distance away as well as the function of security service.
Digital study room features the interactive furnitures, such as multiple touch desk, digital bookshelves.
Smart bedroom can automatically play music or astronomical video depending on use’s interests. The sensor-driven technology which can indicate accurate medical service according to user’s physiological condition will reduce the accident risk for taking care of elders. The ceiling of the smart bedroom actually is a screen figured with a detection camera. When the people lie down in the bed, the system will enter a spiritual visual and audio healing mode to conform their sleep. The magic mirror not only as a traditional mirror can also be commanded by speech for information services.
In the smart kitchen, people can audibly command the electrical appliances and be reminded of the purchasing, preserving date and category of the food in the refrigerator. It also provide digital recipe for non-professionals to cook delicacies.
Interactive garden features the wonderland of digital and interactive technologies. The sensor-driven technologies can be experience ubiquitously in this garden.
