International Freshmen Orientation Kick off this week

The NCKU freshmen orientation for international students will be kicked off by the Division of International Student Affairs of the Office of International Affairs, from 10th to 12th of September to help incoming undergraduate and graduate students get acquainted with NCKU campuses and Taiwanese culture.

The Zero Week orientation has three-day events, including campus tour at 10th, information session at the 11th and Tainan City tour at the 12th as well as the welcome party in the night of the 12th.

On the 11th, the incoming international students will be given campus tours, including library and museum. During the information session on 12th, the Division of the International Student Affairs will provide many helpful lectures for international students, such as “How to Get Used to Taiwan,” “Application to Free Chinese Course,” “Information of the School Dormitory,” “How to Apply for Resident Visa & Alien Resident Certificate (ARC)”, etc. During the session, the freshmen will also be placed into groups and given a chance to ask upperclassmen about college and campus life. All international students will also be given a set of chopsticks and spoons as gift and lottery tickets for bikes. On the 12th, all international freshmen will join the Tainan City tour and the welcome party with a theme related to the Moon Festival to experience this traditional holiday, in which having moon cakes and pomelos can be expected during the party.

In this academic year, the number of newly admitted international students reaches the ever highest peak to 201 people from 45 countries all around the world, including Bangladesh, Belize, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Canada, Columbia, Czech, Dominica, El Salvador, Estonia, Gambia, Germany, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Kenya, Kiribati, South Korea, Malawi, Myanmar, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Malaysia, Mexico, Mongolia, Netherland, Pakistan, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Philippine, Poland, Russia, Saint Lucia, Slovenia, Solomon, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States and Vietnam. Among these new international students, 36 study in the undergraduate programs, 126 in the master programs and 39 in the PhD programs.
