A New Agreement with Alaska strengthen NCKU’s academic efforts
An agreement reached today (July 11) between National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) in southern Taiwan and University of Alaska(UA) in the United States establishes a cooperative research program that will focus on strengthening academic and personnel exchanges.
The agreement was signed at a ceremony at NCKU, Tainan by Dr. Michael M.C Lai, president of NCKU and Dr. Mark R. Hamilton, president of UA.
The new agreement has several components, including exchange programs, joint degrees, certificates and faculty and students exchange on a basis of mutual benefits.
“It is very gratifying for me and for NCKU to forge closer ties with the University of Alaska," President Lai said. "Our agreement reflects a new level of commitment by both institutions to academic cooperation which can be launched on a basis of common interests of both universities.
“UA has high reputation on the research area of science and nature, which can be explored the feasibility of cooperation with NCKU”, Dr. Mark R. Hamilton said.
According to the official from Office of International Affairs, NCKU has had communication with University of Alaska- Fairbanks for 30 years since 1979; two universities had worked on cooperative conferences and projects relevant to mineral and environmental resource from then. Thanks to the recent academic achievements of NCKU, the agreement this time upgrades to be made with University of Alaska system, the official added. 970711w
