NCKU Professor Kuen-Jong Lee named 2017 IEEE fellow
Tainan, Taiwan, December 8, 2016
National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) Department of Electrical Engineering Professor Dr. Kuen-Jong Lee has been named Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Fellow in 2017 in recognition of his research contributions in low-cost testing of digital logic circuits, the university revealed today.
The broadcast scan test compression technology invented by Professor Lee in 1998 has inspired many research activities in both scademia and industry, and is now widely used in industry.
Most EDA tool companies have adopted this techique in their test compression tools and hence broadcast scan has been embedded in most large integrated circuits nowadays.
Moreover, even though many commercial tools are available now, test compression is still a major research topic in most IEEE sponsored events emphasizing on VLSI testing due to the ever-growing complexity of integrated circuits and systems, and most recent reports from industry still consider broadcast scan as a major test compression technique in their newly developed/updated products.
The IEEE Grade of Fellow is conferred by the IEEE Board of Directors upon a person with an outstanding record of accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest. The total number selected in any one year cannot exceed one-tenth of one- percent of the total voting membership. IEEE Fellow is the highest grade of membership and is recognized by the technical community as a prestigious honor and an important career achievement.
Dr. Kuen-Jong Lee is currently a professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering of National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan. He received his BS, MS and PhD degrees from National Taiwan University (Taiwan), University of Iowa (USA), and University of Southern California (USA), respectively.
He has served as the general/program chairs/co-chairs of several professional academic events, including IEEE Asian Test Symposium, VLSI Design, Automation and Test Symposium, Register-Transfer and High-Level Test Workshop, as well as the general chairs of VLSI Design/CAD Symposium and VLSI Test Technology Workshop in Taiwan.
Professor Lee also serves as the chairman of the steering committee of ATS during 2014-2016, the fourth Chair of the Taiwan IC Design Association, and the Director of the SOC Research Technology Center of NCKU during 2008~2010.
He has published more than 210 papers. Recently his research results have won the best paper awards in 2015 VLSI Test Technology Workshop, 2015 and 2016 VLSI Design/CAD Symposium and 2015 IEEE Workshop on Register-Transfer and High-Level Testing.
The IEEE is the world’s leading professional association for advancing technology for humanity. Through its 400,000 plus members in 160 countries, the association is a leading authority on a wide variety of areas ranging from aerospace systems, computers and telecommunications to biomedical engineering, electric power and consumer electronics.
Dedicated to the advancement of technology, the IEEE publishes 30 percent of the world’s literature in the electrical and electronics engineering and computer science fields, and has developed more than 1300 active industry standards. The association also sponsors or co-sponsors nearly 1700 international technical conferences each year.
