American scientist receives K.T. Li Technology and Literature Lectureship Award in NCKU
Tainan, Taiwan, November 10, 2016
Dr. Dushan Boroyevich, the American Electric Power Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech, USA, is one of the six awardees elected to K.T. Li Technology and Literature Lectureship for 2016 in National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan.
Dr. Boroyevich is the first scholar from outside of Taiwan to receive K.T. Li Technology and Literature Lectureship Award, according to the university.
The 2016 K.T. Li Technology and Literature Lectureships Award ceremony was held on the morning of November 10 to celebrate the achievements of the six awardees who has been recognized respectively as this year’s K.T. Li Chair Professor, Honorary Scholar, Researchers and the Research Gold Medal.
Upon receiving the award of K.T. Li Chair Professor from NCKU President Huey-Jen Jenny Su, Dr. Boroyevich expressed his appreciation and said, “Thank you for this unbelievable honor for being the first one from outside of Taiwan receive this honor.”
The K.T. Li Technology and Literature Lectureship was established by the founder and Honorary Chairman of Delta Electronics Bruce Cheng, according to President Su.
She noted that the most profound underline spirit of these awards is that they not only emphasize the technological contributions but also praise the social impact and contribution.
In his remarks, Dr. Boroyevich said, “In this very difficult moment for my country and for the rest of the world, I say thank you to KT Li and Taiwan for allowing me to keep my optimism that human can prosper to collaboration.”
Dr. Boroyevich is the American Electric Power Professor at Virginia Tech and CPES co-director. He has led numerous research projects in the areas of multi-phase power conversion, electronic power distribution systems, modeling and control, and multi-disciplinary design optimization.
He developed a comprehensive geometric approach to modeling and control of high-frequency switching power converters, which is widely used for the analysis, design, and control of multi-phase ac power conversion systems. He has advised over 70 Ph.D. and M.S. students to graduation and has co-authored with them over 650 technical publications.
Dr. Boroyevich is an IEEE Fellow, a recipient of the IEEE William E. Newell Power Electronics Technical Field Award, and a past President of the IEEE Power Electronics Society (PELS). He is also the recipient of the Award for Outstanding Achievements and Service to Profession by the European Power Electronics and Motion Control Council, six prize paper awards, and several awards for excellence in research and teaching at Virginia Tech.
Dr. Boroyevich was elected to the US National Academy of Engineering in 2014 for advancements in control, modeling, and design of electronic power conversion for electric energy and transportation.
