Dutch expert leads service design workshop at NCKU
Tainan, Taiwan, June 21, 2016
Nina van Leeuwarden, a Dutch designer, hosted a two-day workshop featuring service design at the CIE-Center, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan, June 18-19.
In this workshop, an interdisciplinary team of students built and tested a service, which they created based on situations they found around NCKU campus.
“This workshop was organized because of the value of combining traditional classes with workshops that encourages in-class action and teamwork”, said Prof. C.J. Chou, CEO at CIE Center. CIE Center trains NCKU students in Creativity, Innovation and Entrpreneurship (CIE).
“Although the students were new to service design they managed to quickly put together and test their new service concepts, so that the concepts could be presented at the end of the weekend”, Chou said.
Service Design specialist Nina van Leeuwaarden led the workshop, she is alumni from Delft University of Technology. Service Design embraces the design thinking strategy, which is commonly used for designing products; however, this strategy can also be applied on services and even whole businesses.
Nina van Leeuwaarden is from the Netherlands, and now for 4 months in Taiwan on invitation of the Dutch Design Post, which is a NCKU platform to stimulate the Taiwan-Dutch connection.
“It’s great to be in Taiwan and to do this workshop, the NCKU students worked with great enthusiasm, making this a very successful workshop,” said Nina.
