Two teams of students from the Institute of International Management (IIMBA) at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) jointed this year’s dragon boat festival in Tainan.

Held every June, the Dragon Boat Festival has been a much anticipated event worldwide, most especially here in Tainan.

The competition is held at the Anping River with teams representing different schools, government offices, and even foreign countries on a head to head race to the finish line.

This year a total of 160 teams competed for the grand prize wherein NCKU-IIMBA competed in the “International” Category together with 9 other teams.

Other participants include the Persatuan Pelajar Indonesia (PPI), the Vietnamese Student Association (VSA), Office of International Affairs (OIA), Hongkong-Macau NCKU, Jianan University – Chinese Students, two teams from Kunshan University – International students, Black Bridge Food Company (黑橋牌), and of course two teams from NCKU IIMBA called Spartans.

It was a battle well fought as NCKU was able to reach the finals for the first time after 5 long years of participating in the said event. The IMBA Spartans went head to head with the race favorites: Kunshan University and Jianan University. After tallying the race times, Black Bridge Food Company (黑橋牌) got 4th place, NCKU-IIMBA Spartans got 3rd, Kunshan as 2nd and Jianan University as this year’s reigning champion.

It was a wonderful experience for both participants and supporters as they cheer and shout to show their love and support to our team.

This does not end here as NCKU-IIMBA Spartans aim to even climb higher in the ranks and show everyone that we can do it!

“It was definitely a surreal experience being able to achieve this goal after 5 long years of trying. It felt that all those months of hardwork and exercise truly paid off.

These people that I’ve spent time with, suffered with, laughed with, and even fought with could be truly called warriors.

These people gave it all that they’ve got. Before the race I told, which one do you prefer: a minute of pain or a heart full of regret? Their heads were held up high and they paddled till the end. I am very and truly proud to be called an IIMBA SPARTAN! AWOOO!”
