NCKU set up first discussion room open 24 hours - Public.
D-24, a discussion room open 24 hours, was set up at Student Activity Center II, Shen-Li Campus, for every National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) students to have a safer and more comfortable place for discussion.
Prof. Huey-Jen Jenny Su, President of NCKU, together with Yuk-Ying Tung, Vice President for Student Affairs, and Yi-Hsuan Tu, Associate vice President for Student Affairs, visited the student inside the D-24 and inspected the facilities to ascertain the degree of security.
Yuk-Ying Tung, Vice President for Student Affairs said, 'Nowadays, students are busying with part-time job and study. It becomes more difficult for students from different departments to gather to discuss homework at anytime and anyplace. A free discussion room open 24 hours in campus such as D-24 is needed for students' convenience.'
Yi-Hsuan Tu, Associate vice President for Student Affairs, indicated, 'D-24 is the response to student's requirement of discussion room two years ago. Many teachers and parents were concerned with the security of D-24 and afraid it will harm students' health. After comprehensive estimation, we decided to set up D-24.'
'Inside D-24, there are all kinds of discussion areas and bulletin boards. Students can move the equipment around for the best of their discussion. Concerning that students have to discuss project, we also provide projectors for them,' added Yi-Hsuan Tu.
Student Xie from the Department of Civil Engineering said, 'I am glad to see a discussion room open 24 hours in NCKU. Before, it was really inconvenient for us to discuss our homework at night. Especially when there were students of different genders, it was impossible to discuss in the dormitory. At last, we had no choice but to meet at fast food restaurant open 24 hours.'
Other students also respond, 'D-24 is really a great space. It not only is closed to the dormitory but also has projectors. What's more, compared with the discussion rooms in the library, in D-24, we can freely discuss without concerning the voice problem.'
D-24 covers an area of nearly 100 square feet. It can accommodate 60 to 70 people and is located near Sheng-Li dormitories. A security guard will be on the duty from midnight to 8 o'clock in the morning to assure the safety of the space.
