International student graduation celebration to begin in Tainan tomorrow
Tainan, Taiwan, June 10, 2016
A Tainan-based international student graduation event is going to be held tomorrow June 11 in National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) to celebrate the accomplishment of international community in Tainan. A ceremony and ball night will mark the end of university life.
For the very first time, international students in Tainan have finally have a graduation ceremony, which is an exciting beginning for the international community in Tainan to be recognized, said Chinweze Ubadigha, the head of United International Students Alliance (UISA) in NCKU.
A group of students coordinated with UISA to organize this two-fold event. The first session is to recognize the accomplishment of international community. Tainan City Mayor Ching-Te Lai and NCKU President Huey-Jen Jenny Su will be invited to join the celebration.
The second session is more like an after party where all the graduates and their friends can get together to celebrate and dance.
“And that’s also where we will do prom king and prom queen competition,” said Cal Mitchell, a Canadian student who is one of the main organizers of the event, “which is traditionally done with northern American graduation ceremony, that we’d like to share with local students in Tainan.”
Another organizer, Beshley Jean from Haiti noted that people are pretty exciting about the red carpet and being able to take photos.
Jean said, “We want to share what the international community in Tainan is like, sharing collective accomplishment with the rest of Tainan.”
According to Mitchell, “The king and queen will be selected by people who attend the event on that night. They all have to be charismatic with their charm, to go out to talk to people. The more friends they have the more they will have the votes and ultimately be the winners.”
“Please come enjoy some music and have some happy memory you never had before,” Jean added.
Chinweze highlighted the role of international students saying, “NCKU has come to very much embrace the presence of international students here and people here come to realize the international students have a big role to play as long as NCKU is being internationalized.”
Mitchell as one of the graduates who is completing his master degree in IIMBA talked about his education in NCKU, “It’s a very unique and enriching experience not just academically, but also socially, because now I got friends from many places.”
The graduates will walk down the red carpet and be given a glamorous ovation through out the event, said Mitchel, and different cultural displays and entertainment both from local and international students of NCKU and other neighboring Universities will also be showcased.
There will always be food and drinks. Also, gifts will be randomly distributed, he noted.
The ball night will take place at the Tainan Arts District located on Beimen Road inside of Unit 11.
