NCKU students share their ideas about ideal university - Business Wire
A group of students including student association representatives and opinion leaders at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) shared their ideas and experiences about college life and what the ideal university would look like at a meeting with President Huey-Jen Jenny Su and her administrative team.
Applied the methodology of design thinking, the session was led by President Su and her assistant Leslie Tsai, a PhD student of creative industries design.
"This is the first time in this university the design thinking is applied to facilitate the interaction and idea exchanging between the faculty and the students," said Su.
She added, "The participating students in today's meeting will be the first batch of students to submit their ideas about NCKU, sharing their imagination of an ideal university."
Over 30 students participated n the session and were paired up to use the techniques to redesign their college life. They interviewed each other about their ideal college life and talked about problems they encountered in the university.
In the 30 minutes session, Tsai had the students discover their partner's need, and then identify the problems, in the end to build the solutions and share the solutions.
One of the participants Josh Chen, a graduate student from the Department of Earth Sciences, shared his imagination about NCKU describing it as a university which is sunny, bright and positive.
The students in this university are ambitious about their learning and the teachers are helping and caring, Chen added.
One of the problems existing in the university is that, Chen said, the students are still not well-informed about their rights and have limited access to the resources on campus.
More frequent communication and active interaction between teachers and students may be a possible solution to the problem, Chen added.
Tsai noted, "We encourage the participants to take a design challenge for each other's campus life experience, and bring new possibilities to future policy making."
All submitted ideas from the students today will be decided on next forum meeting.
