NCKU’s Professor Li Ke-Rang Scholarship awarded to 66 students - Public.
Each year, Professor Li Ke-Rang Scholarship, one of the most prestigious scholarships in National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), was awarded to many students from the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
This year's scholarship reception was held in the Department of Mechanical Engineering on April 29 where a total of 66 students were given the opportunity to go up on stage and receive their awards.
The former NCKU Presidents Che-Ju Ma, Chiang Kao, Cheng-I Weng and many other professors as well as the 66 students attended the ceremony.
The scholarship is the only one in Taiwan that is established owing to students' gratitude toward their teacher, Professor Ke-Rang Li, who was the former Dean of the Engineering College and currently Emeritus Professor of NCKU.
The money of the scholarship is donated by outstanding graduates from the department.
Originally, donors hoped that they could use the money to improve Professor Li's hard life. However, Li did not use a penny at all but saved the money as the scholarship.
Up to now, there have been over 2000 students benefited from the scholarship.
Li said, 'This year, there was a donor who was awarded the scholarship in the past donated 20 thousand dollars. The act was really praiseworthy. I expect students can do their best to make the society better when they are able to help others.'
'The scholarship can make the bonds between students and teachers closer,' according to Ma.
Kao also pointed out, 'The students may have applied other scholarship that offered more money, but this one is different. It really means a lot to both Professor Li and the department, even to the whole society.'
'I anticipate that students can be braver and more independent to take different challenges in the future.' Weng said.
One of the recipients Jui-Fu Ma said, 'I was very happy when I knew that I was granted the scholarship. After I learned the story behind the scholarship, I was thankful and touched.'
'I think the meaningful scholarship can motivate students to make more efforts on their academic performances and keep working on their future dreams,' he added.
