NCKU sings a cooperation agreement with NSRRC
Tainan, Taiwan, April 27, 2016
A signing ceremony for a cooperation agreement between National Cheng Kung University and National Synchrotron Radiation Research Center (NSRRC) was held on April 4th to further bring the cooperation to another level.
NCKU President Huey-Jen Jenny Su and NSRRC Directorate Shan-Gjr Gwo were represented to sign the agreement.
NSRRC Deputy Director Di-Jing Huang, Secretary General Chia-Hung Hsu, NCKU Executive Vice President and President for R&D Tung-Yang Chen, and Associate Vice President for R&D H. Sunny Sun also attended the ceremony.
President Su said, “The intimate cooperation between NCKU and NSRRC has not only improved our technical aspect and application but also facilitated the exchange of innovative ideas.”
Directorate Gwo said, “Though situated in Southern Taiwan, NCKU has always showed the ambition to commit to the research. This signing ceremony is an historical moment. We hope to broaden and deepen our relationship.”
NSRRC has been investing in a 9 billion NT dollars Taiwan Photon Source (TPS), which is one of the world's brightest synchrotron X-ray sources. The cooperation is therefore expected to attract more talented NCKU people to be devoted to the research in the future.
This time, the agreement especially highlighted the program about cutting-edge scientific research so that not only professors and researchers but students can benefit from the cooperation.
The share of faculties and facilities, joint academic research, training for postgraduates, internship program, and co-sponsored lectures or seminars are also included in the agreement.
NCKU and NSRCC have been cooperating since 2007. In 2009, a laboratory for protein X-ray crystallography was constructed in the Instrument Development Center, NCKU Tzu-Chiang Campus, for together research in protein structural analysis.
Now, the cooperation mainly focuses on physics, optoelectronics, biomedicine and is anticipated to develop a relevant PhD and Master Program of Synchrotron Radiation Research and application in the future.
