Taiwan’s NCKU and Germany’s Tübingen University sign MoUs to foster academic partnership
Taiwan, Tainan, February 29, 2016
National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) in Taiwan, and University of Tübingen in Germany, signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) February 29, for further developing academic exchanges and cooperation in teaching and research.
NCKU President Dr. Huey-Jen Jenny Su and University of Tübingen President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Bernd Engler on behalf of respective organizations signed the MoUs, one is specifically focused on student exchange.
With the MoUs, more opportunities for exchanges and cooperation and joint research and development in disciplines of mutual interest are expecting to be identified.
In his remarks, Dr. Engler said, “I’m delighted to be here to be able to sign the memorandums which will carry on the already-established cooperation.”
“We already have three cooperation contracts one with the faculty at the school of social sciences and then two particular ones in politics and law,” noted Dr. Engler adding, “we have a lot of contact already by our Tubingen alumni here.”
President Huey-Jen Jenny Su welcomed the prestigious delegation of Tubingen and gave a brief introduction of the university saying, “Over the past 50 years, we began as an engineering institutes when it was established by Japanese scholars and for the first of 40 to 45 years we were considered engineering institution for science and technology so we were always known to produce the engines for Taiwan industrial and economic development.”
“Today, one of our centers of excellence in the area of medical devices and the only one in the country has done very well,” said President Su, “linking the academia and the industry together is very much build upon having the engineering faculty and our medicine faculty in the same campus from day one.”
She also said, “With this very special partnership from Tubingen University, I look forward in our joined hands, we can complement each other our strength at the same time maximize our already-existed strong points and across east and west, I see our students being globally competitive and responsible for the better future of our common world.”
The Tübingen delegation includes President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Bernd Engler, Professor Gunter Schubert, Chair of Greater China Studies and Director of the European Research Center of Contemporary Taiwan (ERCCT), and Elisabeth Baier, Central Administration, Department for Research, Strategy and Legal Affairs; EU-Liaison Officer.
