Gro Brundtland Week to kick off Sunday at NCKU

Gro Brundtland Week of Women in Sustainable Development will be kicked off Sunday, February 21, at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan.
The grand opening ceremony, which will be held from 9:30 to 10:00 am at the NCKU Y. S. Sun Green Building Research Center, will include remarks by Academician of Academia Sinica Chao-Han Liu.
After the opening ceremony, Prof. John D. Spengler from Harvard University will deliver his speech on “’Our Common Future’ Depends on What We Do Now” at the first plenary session.
Former Norwegian Prime Minister Dr. Gro Harlem Brundtland won the 2014 Tang Prize in Sustainable Development, and provides a half of her research grant to promote the involvement of younger women researchers from developing countries toward the issues of sustainable development and equitable health systems.
NCKU President Huey-Jen Jenny Su is committed to best manage this budget to achieve the goal under the agreement of Dr. Brundtland and Tang Prize Foundation.
The first science week will be held in NCKU, Tainan, National Dong Hwa University, Hualien, Academia Sinica and Tang Prize Foundation, Taipei.
Continuing until February 26, weeklong science event feature a series of plenary sessions, symposiums, panel discussions and exhibitions about global issues related to sustainable development in public health.
Five qualified female researchers from developing countries and Taiwan is invited and subsidized to present their work during the week.
Building a network and support system among female scientists from different countries will be emphasized and promoted throughout the event.
