Prof. Takashi Gojobori from the Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences at the University of Tokyo and Prof. Atsushi Yoshimura from the Faculty of Agriculture at Kyushu University, Japan, recently visited National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan, to foster partnership for agriculture research.

NCKU President Huey-Jen Jenny Su extended her warm welcome to the professors and she also shared her ideas about international collaboration, promising to facilitate more collaboration between NCKU and the institutes in Japan.

She said, “We welcome all the opportunities. Any seed is an ignition to a bigger fire and that’s how it spread. Hopefully we can take this opportunity to have another platform.”

Gojobori, a famed expert on comparative genomics, received an honorary doctoral degree from NCKU in 2014. His research aims at elucidating the evolutionary origin of the neural network and its application to synthetic biology for developments of bio-energy.

Gojobori introduced Yoshimura to President Su, hoping to foster the collaborative relationship between Kyushu University and NCKU.

Kyushu University is particularly good in the science of agriculture, said Gojobori, and NCKU with the strong strength in engineering is promoting activities involving life sciences, and agriculture.

I’m hopeful that we can kick off many more exchanges in this regard, President Su noted.

Yoshimura said that he is happy to be here and before coming to NCKU, he was told the Chinese name of the university is originated from a Taiwanese hero, meaning success.

I’m glad that we have set up a goal for future collaboration between two universities, Gojobori noted.
