NCKU, CUHK co-work to explore innovative cities
Tainan, Taiwan, January 5, 2016
The International Conference of Culture and Creativity 2015 (ICCC 2015) kicks off today at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan, with more than 60 professors and students from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and NCKU to explore issues of cultural creativity and innovation of city culture.
Prof. Fong‐Gong Wu, Dean of College of Planning and Design at NCKU, on behalf of NCKU extended his warm welcome to CUHK faculty and students traveling to Tainan to participate the three-day conference.
At the opening ceremony, Prof. Chi-Yue Chiu, Dean of Faculty of Social Science at CUHK, who had participated ICCC before said, “I look forward to this opportunity learning more from you again and this time we bring our students from CUHK to learn from students at NCKU.”
“I think this will be a very exciting learning opportunity for all of us,” added Chiu.
“Also I hope the students at the conference not only working together on issues of common interests but developing long lasting friendship so that after this conference we continue to work together.
“To me this is a very interesting cultural journey as well,” said Chiu, “because coming here to learn about Tainan culture and to learn about the efforts our colleague in NCKU has put into serving and extending the Tainan culture and creating a lot of very important interface with neighboring cultures.”
Prof. Shyh-Nan Liou from the Institute of Creative Industries Design (ICID), who is one of the key organizers, said, “ICCC 2015 is the 5th annual international conference started from 2010.”
“We focus on two topics this year, one is the exchange of the students’ projects on culture city and the other is to reflect on the current issues of creative industry,” added Liou.
After the ceremony, Chiu talked about cultural mixing and shared some of the work that they done in Hong Kong.
Prof. Annisa Lai Lee, Vice Dean of Wu Yee Sun College of CUHK, gave a talk on Between Image and Reality: A Borrowed Dream and a Local Flower.
Chiu and Lee have led 18 students to join the three-day conference and co-work with professors and students of NCKU.
One of the CUHK students Hei Wai Ng said that he would like to have more international exposure, adding, “The Tainan culture is quite different from our Honk Kong culture and this learning opportunity is very precious for me.”
He said that he’d like to befriend with NCKU students and he also want to develop his cultural sensitivity to know more about cultures of other countries.
Lok Hei Leung majoring journalism and communication at CUHK said, “We have a C-lab at CUHK doing the similar things as NCKU’s C-hub.
“We came here to get some experience on how to mix culture from different things and different places,” said Leung who mentioned that they are promoting similar cultural mixing in Hong Kong.
From January 5 to 7, the participants of ICCC2015 will discuss and explore issues centered on the memories and the innovations of city culture with perspectives both from Taiwan and Hong Kong.
