WTO Member of the Appellate Body will speak at NCKU - Noodls
Peter Van den Bossche, Member of the Appellate Body of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and Professor of International Economic Law at Maastricht University will give a talk at the Department of Politics, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan,from 2 to 3 pm on January 5, 2016.
The topic of Prof. Van den Bossche's talk is 'The WTO at 20: Much Achieved, More to be Done.'
After his talk, Prof. Van den Bossche will also attend a forum on WTO Dispute Settlement.
All interested in WTO issues are welcome to attend the talk and forum.
Prof. Van den Bossche also is visiting professor of law at the College of Europe, Bruges; the Faculty of Law of the University of Barcelona; the China-EU School of Law, Beijing, China; the Academy of International Trade and Investment Law, Macau; and the World Trade Institute, Berne.
He is member of the Board of Editors of the Journal of International Economic Law and the International Journal of Public Law and Policy and member of the Advisory Board of the Journal of World Investment and Trade and the Revista Latinoamericana de Derecho Comercial International.
Since 2013, he is also member of the Advisory Board of the WTO Chairs Programme (WCP).
The Appellate Body was established in 1995 under Article 17 of the Understanding on Rules and Procedures Governing the Settlement of Disputes (DSU). It is a standing body of seven persons that hears appeals from reports issued by panels in disputes brought by WTO Members.
The Appellate Body can uphold, modify or reverse the legal findings and conclusions of a panel, and Appellate Body Reports, once adopted by the Dispute Settlement Body (DSB), must be accepted by the parties to the dispute. The Appellate Body has its seat in Geneva, Switzerland.
