NCKU hosts community charity to donate ready-cooked meals to the elderly - Noodls

More than 100 ready-cooked meals produced by the research center for bioscience and biotechnology at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan, were donated to the elderly in the Chang-Rong community recently to celebrate the Christmas spirits.
Mr. Xin-Sheng Li, the head of the Chang-Rong community, and four other elders were invited to first savor the food at the reception held by the University Center for Bioscience and Biotechnology on the morning of December 21.
Li said, the food is gorgeous and thanks to the generosity of the university, the older people had the opportunity to feel the warmth and caring from people in the university community.
NCKU President Huey-Jen Jenny Su attended the reception and appreciated the efforts made by faculty and staff from the University Center for Bioscience and Biotechnology.
She noted that to get safe, delicious, and nutritious food is essential and NCKU's center for bioscience and biotechnology has been paying much attention to the food safety issues in Taiwan, expecting to create a safer food environment starting from Tainan.
President Su asked for 100 more meals to be delivered to the community when she noticed that there are much more elder citizens in this community.
The prepared meal set included curry paste, yogurt, kombucha, and sprout.
The University Center for Bioscience and Biotechnology had been involved in the meal producing from the inspection of the food sources to the preparation.
Prof. Tzen-Yuh Chiang of life sciences, the director of the University Center for Bioscience and Biotechnology, said, given the food-safety scandals over the past years, we are going to set up a double-blind certification system for agricultural raw materials to ensure food safety.
