Students at NCKU have lunch conversations with President Su - CNA

A group of students, local and international, at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan, met with the university’s president at lunchtime today to discuss their concerns and problems regarding the cafeteria, campus information in English, lab security, friendly campus, and library opening hours.

NCKU President Huey-Jen Jenny Su was happy with the lunch date with students saying, “It’s always in my mind that I would like to schedule as much time as possible to make it available for students to meet me without making specific appointment in my office.”

A student from IIMBA said that it’s really inconvenient after the cafeteria shut down recently. President Su responded that the Kung-Fu cafeteria shut down for government regulations and after that the school has set up a temporary stand.

Also we will provide students who need the discount coupons for food with temporary support before the end of this semester, she added.

As for the safety concerns on the technical training at the machinery shops, or carpentry shops in the departments, President Su said to the students that all the training and laboratory time will be carefully guarded and supported by professionals.

An Indian student of electrical engineering, said that most of the information on campus is written in Chinese which cannot be understood by lots of international students.

President Su said, “I’ll make sure that every office answer to me that how they will plan to have their information especially information related to the student affairs will be in dual language as lease in a brief form to present key messages.”

Students asked that whether the school is making the NCKU campus more friendly in a sustainable way and President Su said, “I do it because of who I am. That’s the way I look at people, the ways I specifically appreciate when my days as an international student in the United States. Hopefully I will be smart enough, effective enough and sufficient enough to make it a naturally sustainable mechanism in NCKU.”

She added, “I particularly believe that any friendship, any emotional bondage would be the way that I can best contribute to the school.”

“When you graduate from the school, what will you carry with you I think is not the building, not the food, but one particular faculty, one particular staff, or even the classmate you meet here and how you have treated with each other, and that would carry on with you for the rest of your life,” President Su said to the students.
