Director of French Office in Taipei visits NCKU to foster partnership - noodls
Mr. Benot Guidee, the Director of French Office in Taipei visited National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) President Huey-Jen Jenny Su on the afternoon of December 7 to promote NCKU student exchanges and science cooperation with France.
At her office, President Su extended her warm welcome to Mr. Guidee who was accompanied by Mr. Nicolas Bauquet, head of the culture section at the French Office in Taipei.
Guidee mentioned at the meeting with Su that he read an article about the collaborative project between a French seafood company and NCKU. 'This is exactly the kind of collaboration we are looking for,' he said.
He noted that innovation should be the priority on the relationship between France and Taiwan.
'We would like to discuss ways to put further focus on the areas including industrial design, renewable energies and ocean engineering, medical engineering, and technologies for health,' he added.
Guidee also said, 'There is a lot of potential in offshore energy where France is quite well positioned in terms of technology and knowhow.'
'That's definitely the area that I see would be very much go in line with our strength,' responded Su, 'because we have the one of the oldest hydraulic department where we have the experimental sites. That makes our faculty by nature has concentrated on offshore for some time.'
Guidee also said, 'NCKU is taking the lead of FICHET to promote higher education in Taiwan, and we would like to take this opportunity to inform you that France has suggested to the ministry of Education of Taiwan to organize a 'Study in Taiwan' event in France in 2016.
This would be an outstanding opportunity to invite top Taiwan universities to France and promote partnerships and exchanges, according to Guidee.
He also said, as for student mobility, we are quite happy in general with how the student exchanges are going between Taiwan and France.
After the meeting, Mr. Guidee and his staff participated in a guided tour arranged by the university to the Magic School of Green Technologies, which is the first zero-carbon building in Taiwan.
