NCKU, China Airlines signs agreement for talent training - noodls

National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) and China Airlines (CAL) signed an agreement to initiate training program for future talent, the university revealed recently.
The Aviation Personnel Nurturing Strategy Framework MOU Signing ceremony was held at the College of Management, NCKU, on November 8.
NCKU President Huey-Jen Jenny Su and CAL Chairman Huang-Hsiang Sun on behalf of both institutes signed the agreement at the ceremony.
'NCKU is committed to nurture local talents,' said NCKU President Su.
Our graduates have earned the reputation of 'the first choice among hiring managers' and the 'industry's favorites' each year since 1993, she added.
CAL Chairman Sun said at the ceremony that NCKU graduates with grades ranking in the top 10 percent of the class would automatically qualify for a job in CAL or in Mandarin Airlines.
Sun said he would like to attract more 'exceptional talent from NCKU' to their company.
'Of the 12,000 employees at China Airlines, NCKU alumni comprise around 1.6 percent. At the second-tier managerial level, 8.4 percent of staff are from NCKU,' remarked Sun.
The training program, titled 'Diploma in Aviation Management,' boasts of lecturers with extensive industry experience, such as Chief Executive Officer of CAL Yu-Hern Chang, as well as various internship opportunities.
Chang formerly served as the head of the Management Department of NCKU. Having devoted 30 years of his life to education at NCKU, he saw pushing for deeper cooperation between the industry and his alma mater a personal mission, said Chang. 'Happy to see the partnership has finally been realized.'
Students would have the opportunity to understand how the industry operates ahead of graduation, saving them the time it takes to adapt to professional environments, said Chang.
Chang stressed this is the beginning of a long-term cooperation, which seeks to reduce the gap between theory and practice. The ultimate goal is to create a 'Civil Aviation Academy,' said Chang, which he said would be an important step for the country and within the industry.
Chang would personally teach the course, 'Airline Industry Management.'
The new diploma program is the latest among recent industry-academy initiatives of CAL to address the need for manpower in the sector.
Since 2010, they have increased partnerships with many local universities, encompassing different disciplines, such as maintenance, tourism management and transportation.
However, the new training program would be its first cooperation with NCKU.
