Interstellar executive producer Kip Thorne will talk in NCKU
Tainan, Taiwan, October 27, 2015
Do you recall “Interstellar” the blockbuster movie? Were you puzzled by some of the scenes in the movie? Would you like to know what a “wormhole” is? How comes that one hour on the planet where Miller stays is equal to seven years on Earth? Why the interval of time is different in different places? How to stay alive when one is sucked into a black hole? Why can Cooper send out gravitational wave by flicking a string to affect the motion of a needle? What is five dimension?
The Department of Physics and the Center for Teaching and Learning Development of the National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) have invited Prof. Kip Thorne, the executive producer of the movie “Interstellar”, to explain all the aforementioned questions at the Cheng-Kung Hall in the Kuang-Fu campus of NCKU on October 30.
The 930 seats available at the Cheng-Kung Hall for Friday’s event have all been claimed earlier through online registration.
To allow more students and also people in the university community to attend this talk, NCKU decided to broadcast this talk in the multi-function hall of the Center of Student Activity. The on-site registration is also welcome for anyone who is interested in. Seize the opportunity and don't miss it.
Professor Kip Thorne is a world-renown theoretical astrophysicist in the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), USA, as well as the executive producer of the movie “Interstellar”.
Based on Einstein's general relativity, he combined theoretical science and filming technology to present reality more stunning than science fiction in the movie “Interstellar”.
Instead of fancy and imaginative technology, the near-future and predictable science development is applied in this movie.
The academic contribution of Professor Kip Thorne is mainly focused on gravity and astrophysics. He is also good at demonstrating to the public the exciting discovery in these fields.
Therefore, he does not only share his outstanding progress to the academic society, but also enhance people's understanding of science via public media.
Let us expect that Professor Thorne will turn technically astrophysical knowledge into the language of layman, and clarify all your puzzles in the movie.
